Environmental Friendliness Surface Gillnet (Floating gillnet) In The Waters Of Lombok Strait

Abstract

Floating gillnet is one of the fishing gear used by the fisherman in Lombok Strait Fishing Port, which are generally aimed to catching cob fish (Auxis thazard). This study aims to determine the environmental friendliness of surface gill net fishing units against the catch of Suree cob fish (Auxis thazard) which operating in the waters of the Lombok Strait. This research was conducted in June 2022 - July 2022. The method carried out in this study was the survey method. The data taken in this study including primary data and secondary data. Primary data obtained were composition of the catch fishes, the fork length (FL), the individual body weight (BW), the utilization of the catch and the proportion of the main catch and the by-catch. The data obtained were analyzed using the proportion of the main catch and bycatch, the percentage of fish worth catching and unfit to catch and environmental friendliness analysis. The results showed that the floating gillnet fishing gear operated in the waters of Lombok Strait is an environmentally friendly fishing gear judging from several existing parameters
